For the second time in recent memory, peanut butter is at the heart of a widespread salmonella problem. In early January, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a warning of peanut butter distributed under the King Nut label manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America, of Lynchburg, Va. The company also recalled its distribution of Parnell's Pride peanut butter, which is also made by Peanut Corporation. . Consumers should not let anyone, particularly children, eat the peanut butter. The warning is because salmonella had been found in an open five-pound tub of King Nut peanut butter.

The problem was identified in Minnesota and may involve salmonella outbreaks in as many as 388 people in 42 other states. The Minnesota Dept. of Health on Friday issued a warning that a five pound tub of creamy peanut butter distributed by King Nut had tested positive for salmonella bacteria
