McDonald’s Recalls 12 Million Shrek Glasses (Update)

This morning, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and McDonald’s announced a recall of 12,000,000 Shrek theme glasses.

If you or a family member is injured by a product, you need to get immediate medical care. If there is a significant affect or injury, you should contact an attorney concerning the problem. Early investigation can include the collection of product, checking recall alerts, and the proper notifying of those who caused the problem.

The Shrek -themed drinking glasses have cadmium in the painted design. Cadmium can be used to create reds and yellows in paint. McDonald’s USA spokesman Bill Whitman said a pigment in paint on the glasses contained cadmium. Cadmium is a known carcinogen that can cause kidney problems and soften bones.

The 16-ounce glasses, which have been sold for about $2 each and were available in four designs depicting the main characters from the animated movie.

Consumers should immediately stop using the glasses. McDonald’s said it would post instructions on its website next week regarding refunds.

In looking at their website it is interesting that under the McDonald’s toy rules it says:

McDonald’s suppliers do not use lead-based paint on Happy Meal toys. This safety

step has been a McDonald’s mandate for more than 20 years.

There does not seem to be any pictures or information on the site about the glasses at this time.
