Minnesota Republicans Want to Suppress the Voting Turnout

Comments Off

Minnesota has some of the best voting percentages each year, something that you think everyone would be proud of. But the Republicans in St Paul apparently don’t like it. They are pushing for picture identification for voters. No one can suggest that it would add to voter turnout. So by definition, they are working to reduce the voting in the state.

Why? I would suspect because they don’t want the poor and the disadvantaged to vote. Probably, because they are making no secret that they don’t represent that group. In other states, these groups have gotten push polling calls that have threatened them with all sorts of problems if they show up such as deportation or jail.

The talk has been to suggest fraud because of the last two close elections. As I have written about before, this is hogwash:

Stop The Election Lies About What Happened In Minnesota, Mike Bryant | July 07, 2009 2:48 AM

Like the prior recount, I had an opportunity to be in a couple of counties this time. I was especially moved by the oath that was read by those that work for the county auditor:

STATE RECOUNT OFFICIALS

OATH OF OFFICE

"I, __________________________, solemnly swear that I will perform the duties of state recount member according to law and the best of my ability and will diligently endeavor to prevent fraud, deceit and abuse in conducting this statewide recount." M.S. 204C

These people were serious and proud of the job they were doing. It’s time that the vote suppressors stop attacking a good system and start acting more like patriots.
