The People’s Open was about to make a big mistake. Thursday, most of the players never got out and Tiger only played 6 and 3/4ths of a hole. The rain came and the fans were sent home. Originally, they were going to be sent home with a pat on the back and "Thanks for coming. Sorry, it didn’t work out".

So there were parents that bought Thursday tickets, parked their car, took the shuttle, and probably bought at least a program and they weren’t going to get to see much more than a handful of shots from very few of the stars. Sorry kids and we’re sold out , so hopefully we’ll be back in 5 or 10 years.

There was an uproar, so today the USGA reversed their stance and is now offering entry on Monday, if it gets that far, or half your ticket back. Not the perfect solution, but at least a better attempt. I applaud the Golf Association for reconsidering. Hopefully, there will be at least a playoff on Monday for everyone to get another chance. In these economic times, it’s important that fans get what they paid for.

I agree, choice points you have stated there. There has been a lot of rain in the Northeast U.S. so far this year and I've seen numerous pro baseball teams make some really dumb calls on delays and rainouts (especially the Yankees). Two weeks ago in New York, the Yankees waited four hours in a rain delay and just as the radar to the south and west had finally cleared up, they posponed the game with no make up date scheduled. I was following that one on that day and I was totally perplexed with their decision. At least the USGA reverted their policy somewhat and tried to help out the fans, who after all, are their bread and butter.

Nice post, Mike. Good recovery by the USGA, since a Thursday ticket has a great chance to become a Championship Day ticket. No calling in sick Monday, partner!
