This past week St. John’s Abbey released a list adding 3  Monks accused of sexually abusing minors.

Father Augustine Strub

Father Hugo John “Augustine” Strub, OSB was born on March 7, 1921,

Father Strub entered the monastic community of St. John’s professing simple vows on July 11, 1942.

Studied theology at St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota

Ordained a Roman Catholic priest June 15, 1947.   worked at the following parishes:

 1947-49: Colegio Del Tepeyac, Mexico

 1949-50: St. John’s Abbey, Collegeville, MN

 1951-51: Mission assignments: Holy Family, Cloquet, MN; St. Patrick, Brookston, MN; Church of Mary and Joseph, Sawyer, MN

 1952-56: Mission assignments: St. Ann, Naytahwaush, MN; St. Frances Cabrini, Big Elbow Lake, MN; St. Agnes, Mahnomen, MN; Wild Rice Reserve and Daigles Mill in Clearwater County, MN

 1956-57: Mission assignments: Immaculate Conception, Red Lake, MN; Christ the King, Redby, MN; S.S. Peter and Paul, Nebish, MN

 1957-58: The Assumption, Callaway, MN  1959-59: St. Boniface, Cold Spring, MN

 1960-61: St. Mary’s Hospital, Duluth, MN Ministerial Status: Father Augustine Strub left the priesthood in 1961-1962.

He died in 2015

Father Strub served as a priest in the Diocese of Crookston, the Diocese of Duluth, and the Archdiocese of Mexico City.

Ministerial Status: Father Plakut worked as a priest in good standing until his death in 1988.

Father James Kelly

Father James Kelly worked at the following parishes:

 1962: St. Bernard Abbey, St. Bernard, AL

 1963-67: St. Joseph’s, Minneapolis, MN

 1972-73: St. Bartholomew’s, Wayzata, MN

Ministerial Status: Father James Kelly left St. John’s and the priesthood in 1974. He died in 2011.

there are more lists that exist in Minnesota,  and there are many more names to find.

Abuse of children and the continued silence by the offenders needs to be prevented. If you suffered, saw, or suspected such events, it is important to know that there is help out there.
