Is There An Open Window For People To Make Claims For Sexual Abuse In Minnesota?

Comments Off

Yes.  In Minnesota there is a law called the Child Victims Act that was signed by the Governor in May of 2013 which states that any person who was abused as a minor in Minnesota has three years in order to make a claim.  You have this right even if in the past you were told that the time period has passed.

If you have a claim, it is worth talking to an experienced attorney who has practiced in that area of the law in order to make sure all of your rights are protected.  The law does not have any other significant requirements such as proof of fraud or repressed memory claims to move forward.  There is basically no statute at all during this time period.

This law has proven to be a chance for justice for those who, until now, have been denied access to the courthouse.  It allows secrets to be uncovered and justice to be achieved.
