The United States Catholic Church Needs to Take Zero Tolerance to Heart

Comments Off

At times, members of the Church hierarchy seem to be saying the right things, but at other times it seems to just be more false promises from the Church leadership.

There was a very troubling story recently in the New York Times that looked at the actions the United States Catholic Church has taken to stop the expansion of statute of limitations across the nation.

Why would they want to prevent the expansion of the claims other than to hide behind time? Time that they contributed to by not allowing the truth to come out. Time that was used to allow predators to move on or to even die. Time that was used to pressure survivors to remain silent.

As I have written in the past , statute of imitations are important:

They needed to use the zero tolerance doctrine to shine light on what happened and to insure that it would never happen again. They need to not move priests around and to quit putting them in situations that allow great access to kids. They needed to stop hiding.

Abuse of children and the continued silence by the offenders needs to be prevented. If you suffered, saw, or suspected such events, it is important to know that there is help out there.
