Is the Listeria Outbreak Getting enough Attention?

Comments Off

The more that is being found out about the listeria outbreak, the worse it sounds. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed 72 illnesses, including 13 deaths, from listeriosis linked to whole melons grown by Jensen Farms in Holly, Colo. Three other deaths are currently under investigation.

The hope is that with the short life span of melons that the problem will be short lived. But, this is already one of the largest listeria outbreaks. This is particularly dangerous because listeria bacteria kills approximately 30% of victims and sends 90% of the elderly people who get listeriosis to the hospital.

More education and great regulations of these problems will be important to make sure the problem doesn’t grow. It would also help if time is spent studying what happened here to make sure that it can be prevented in the future.

If you suffer from food poisoning, you need to get immediate medical care. If it continues or there are long term affects, you should contact an attorney concerning the problem. Early investigation can include the collection of samples, checking for health alerts, and the proper notifying of those who caused the problem.
