Good News From 2009 : Yearly Highway Deaths Down Again

There was excellent news with the final data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report showing that highway deaths were fewer across the country in 2009. In Minnesota, the drop was 403 traffic fatalities in Minnesota in 2009, compared to 455 in 2008.

There are still ongoing concerns about motorcycle, pedestrian and drunk driving deaths. All of which have seen increases over the last couple of years. The report also looked at concerns about rural highways. 70 percent of fatalities in the state in 2008 were rural. It was 88 percent in North Dakota, 89 percent in South Dakota, 83 percent in Iowa, 88 percent in Nebraska and 68 percent in Wisconsin.

With any death in a Minnesota motor vehicle collision, there are a number of issues that will need to be reviewed. My partner, Joe Crumley, addressed this topic in a recent article for the Minnesota Lawyers Trial magazine and I was interviewed on the same topic

Any decrease is good news. Do you have the stats on truck-involved crashes in MN?
