Slight Decrease In Highway Deaths Seen In Wright County For 2009

Comments Off

While the whole state saw a reduction in highway deaths, there was a slight drop in the highway deaths in Wright county. Wright County went from fifteen deaths in 2008 to fourteen in both 2009.

.“The majority of fatalities in our county were completely preventable,” said Pat Hackman, executive director of Safe Communities of Wright County. “By driving sober and wearing a seat belt, many of these fatalities, and even the crashes themselves, could have been totally avoided.” While each of the deaths were separate, there is concern by the sheriff department. Alcohol and seat belts played a role in some of these deaths, thus there can be an expected increased law enforcement effort.

As with any death in a Minnesota motor vehicle collision, there are a number of issues that will need to be reviewed. My partner, Joe Crumley, addressed this topic in a recent article for the Minnesota Lawyers Trial magazine. I was interviewed last year on the same topic.
