We deal with clients all the time who are injured. It is one thing to hear about the problems they have and a totally different issue to experience the symptoms. Like most people, we each have experienced past injuries, so sometimes you will actually be able to include your own experience in talking about neck, back, or leg pain. Headaches are another shared experienced that we each have a personal view on. The big difference is those problems that go away and those that are permanent.
I have been sick with a cough for something between 5 weeks and 50 years it has felt like. A combination of a chest cold and being very tired. I have heard from everyone about possible remedies and have concocted about ten different Hot Toddy recipes. (Fallback is still my Grandmother’s hot water, real lemon, honey, and Brandy)
It stinks while I am going through it, but it does remind me about the importance of health. That people treat you different when you are sick. That it is tough to do just about everything when you are run down.
One of the things we talk about as we represent people is that we have experience. That we take the time to understand each person’s loss and do our best to present those losses to the other side. While being sick hurts my productivity in the short run, hopefully it helps with the overall understanding of what clients go through.
