There is an interesting case going on in Alabama where a couple of attorneys have sued a law firm for improperly soliciting cases. Basically, they are suing to prevent the :

lawyers from approaching someone to solicit a case or hiring someone to solicit cases on their behalf.

These actions are in violation of the ethics rules for lawyers. We are not allowed to go up to people we don’t know and ask to represent them. We aren’t allowed to hire people to do it either.

If you have been in a collision and you are approached in this manner, you are probably getting what you paid for. Maybe, it helps to think that if someone will break the rules, they are just as likely to break the rules for you, but it really doesn’t work that way.

You may ask what is different about the insurance agent or little white trucks that show up? On it’s face nothing, but there are rules that all lawyers have to live with. They aren’t allowed to do what the insurance companies can, but you still need to protect yourself.

We advertise, but since it’s at arms length and not a personal solicitation, that is allowed. Perhaps, it doesn’t seem that much different either. But, there are still better ways to hire a lawyer and make sure you make the right choice:
