There is almost always at least one article per week here at the Injuryboard concerning the results of impaired drivers. Our firm is presently involved in our usual effort to keep the local numbers down during the holidays. Educational efforts continued nationally.
Despite all of this the recent study from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) disclosed some very disheartening results:
on average 13.2 percent of all persons 16 or older drove under the influence of alcohol and 4.3 percent of this age group drove under the influence of illicit drugs in the past year.
A slight bright spot was that the recent numbers did show a slight reduction when compared to past years. But, when the numbers are calculated at 40 millions drivers still impaired on the roads, it is clear that we have a national problem.
