Monday afternoon, two teenagers hit each other head on north of Mapleton. Killed were an 18-year-old woman from Mankato and a 16-year-old boy from Mapleton. Both were reported to be wearing seat belts and their airbags deployed. Investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol continues as to what happened.

These death, are tragedies considering their youth. Sorrow goes out to their family and friends. With the recently released lower numbers concerning highway deaths in 2009 any death is still very sad. The deaths did take place on a rural highway that is continuing to be a concern for Department of Public Safety (MDPS).

As with any death in a Minnesota motor vehicle collision, there are many issues that will need to be reviewed. My partner, Joe Crumley, addressed this topic in a recent article for the Minnesota Lawyers Trial magazine. I was interviewed on the same topic.
