There seems to be a direct correlation between changes in season and an increase in the death rate on Minnesota roads. As we see the piles of snow disappear, people seem to take this as a sign to speed up. Unfortunately, in these seasons we also see a lot of rain, fog, and hail. Each of these bring with it patches of unsafe road.
I absolutely understand after months of having to navigate Minnesota’s tough winter conditions how nice it is to suddenly feel spring in the air. To finally be able to get places without concerns of snow plows. To see around corners without looking over snow piles.
The problem is that these increased speeds are risky and endanger more people. This is the main reason why death tolls seem to run lockstep with how often there are extreme changes in the weather.
Do not become a statistic because of weather changes that are just on the edge. Keep you, your friends, and others on the road safe by respecting those days that are just on the edge. It is more important to make it to summer than to quickly get to your next stop.
