The annual Minnesota Department of Health report concluded that the number of “adverse events” in Minnesota hospitals significantly dropped in the number of fatal mistakes and a dramatic reduction in fall-related injuries from 2008 to 2009. There were four deaths as compared to the 18 deaths in 2008. There were 301 "never events" (never supposed to happen- such as wrong-site surgeries, severe bedsores or dangerous medication errors) as compared to 312 in 2008.

Minnesota hospitals performed the wrong surgery, or operated on the wrong patient or wrong body part, 44 times. Minnesota doctors left 38 "foreign objects" (often gauze sponges or needles) inside patients during surgery.

Locally, the St Cloud Hospital had 13 “adverse health events” — five less than last year. The number of surgeries or other invasive procedures performed on the wrong body part declined from three to two.

If you or a family member is injured by medical malpractice, it’s important that you seek the advice of knowledgeable attorneys who can answer your questions and make sure your rights are protected.
