– The Catholic Archdiocese of Milwaukee filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. This is the eighth Catholic diocese in the country to file for bankruptcy. ( Tucson, Arizona; Portland, Oregon; Spokane, Washington; Fairbanks, Alaska; Wilmington, Delaware; San Diego; and Davenport, Iowa.) The action was taken just before depositions were going to start in one of the cases against the church. They would have had to answer questions on how extensive the abuse was. Now with the federal protection those in the know are being able to hide. Interesting how these abuse cases have a defendant that is either claiming immunity from the law for religious purposes or protection from the law as a regular corporation. They are bankrupt alright.
– Jeff Anderson and Associates announced this week that they will be involved in cases that took place in England. Part of the reason is that the Catholic Church has for years moved known pedophiles around and hidden them in countries where the laws are less likely to be enforced. Hopefully, those that were abused in England will finally find justice.
– The fight against child porn was helped this week with the creation of a new website. The Child Protection News Blog is another advancement from Anderson and Associates. On first look it seems like a lot of information that all parents should be aware of and worth adding to the RSS feeder. Two of note from Patrick Noaker:
