Its interesting to watch the flurry of lawsuits that have come out of the 2024 election. There has been settlements with ABC and a claim about a Des Moines Register poll Now we have a suit against CBS claiming 60 minutes interfered with the election and edited a interview with Kamala Harris.
Like the Des Moines Registry case, I question what the damage is when you win. Like the CBS case, I will applaud if a settlement gets the lawyers paid. ( as an aside I wonder how much it annoys all those that he didn’t pay ………….. yet)
Now the CBS suit is interesting. Because , Paramount is working on a merger with Skydance. They need governmental approval, so there are internal discussions about making a deal vs do they look guilty by paying.
At the same time as the suit, a complaint was lodged with the FCC. As part of their investigation transcripts of the whole interview have now been released. The FCC’s conclusion was that there was no violation and the issue is closed. We will be watching to see what 60 minutes does.
Yet another, great example of Trump exercising his 7th Amendment rights. Hopefully, he will continue to stand for peoples rights ( I am thinking of my clients rights) to bring claims. [Side note: did you know that McDonalds was a top suing franchise when they were crying about the coffee verdict ? ] He sues people all the time. Lets stop with any tort reform nonsense.
