While the whole state saw a reduction in highway deaths, there was a better drop in the highway deaths in Mower county. Mower County went from four deaths in 2008 to two in 2009.

The two people that were killed were on a motorcycle that hit a minivan.

Austin, the biggest city in the county , did not have any traffic fatalities in 2009 and saw 301 motor-vehicle crashes overall with injuries to 100 people. In 2008, Austin had one traffic fatality and 395 motor-vehicle crashes overall, with 94 people injured.

As with any death in a Minnesota motor vehicle collision, there are a number of issues that will need to be reviewed. My partner, Joe Crumley, addressed this topic in a recent article for the Minnesota Lawyers Trial magazine. I was interviewed last year on the same topic.
