Up until the middle of this year, survivors of childhood sexual abuse only had until age 24 to sue out civil lawsuits against their abusers and any and all other defendants. There were arguments for fraud that had found some success in the courts or that had at least caused the defendants to do more than respond with summary judgment motions. Fortunately, for these survivors there is a chance at justice again for the next three years.
With the passage and signing of the Minnesota Child Victims Act, there has now been a window of justice opened. If you or anyone you know was sexually abused as a child in Minnesota, they have the three years to bring a claim. The window provides a way for the abuser and the institutions that have hidden the abusers to be forced to account for the damage they have done and to prevent future damage.
The stories are real and now finally they can be brought out into the open.
