Sunday afternoon, a Highway 52 collision in Dakota County killed a passenger that was thrown from the car.  Police are still investigating the cause.

The pickup was traveling south on Highway 52 when it lost control  and left the road. The driver was also thrown from the vehicle  and was injured.   Speed and weather conditions are thought to have played a role.

The death is the start of a new total for 2009.   This followed 2008 which was projected to have 450 deaths.  A drop from 510 in 2007.

As with any death in a Minnesota motor vehicle collision, there are a number of issues that will need to be reviewed. My partner, Joe Crumley, addressed this topic in a recent article for the Minnesota Lawyers Trial magazine. I was interviewed last year on the same topic. In this case, sorrow for the families of those involved goes out.
