Today in downtown Minneapolis, a bicyclist was killed when he collided with a truck. The 18 year old bike rider was on 5th street near Nicollet Ave. At present, the police are still investigation what happened, but eye witnesses did tell police that they saw the bike ride up near the truck.
In downtown Minneapolis, there are a number of bike riders who use the bike lanes in both directions. For drivers turning across the lane, it is a necessity that they look in both directions even when cross a one way street. Bike riders need to be careful because of the size of the vehicles they are on the road with. As always it’s important that we all share the road. For no fault insurance purposes, bike riders are treated the same as pedestrians. If they have car insurance they turn to that coverage for their no fault benefits. (Medicals, Mileage, wage loss and replacement services). If they don’t have the coverage or don’t live with a relative that does, they turn to the involved car or in some cases the assigned claims bureau for coverage.
