After a deadly end to February, March didn’t get off that much better on Minnesota roads. The icy roads in combination with speed and no seat belts has been the usual reason.
Saturday night, the Minnesota State Patrol report that a 2005 Toyota Camry ran a stoplight on East 57th Avenue and struck a 1996 Geo Prizm as it was exiting off Highway 100. Both of the people in the Geo were killed. Alcohol is alleged to have been a factor.
Wednesday afternoon, a 34 year old Granite Falls man was killed when he was trapped by a skid steer loader. Emergency crews were able to release him, but he died at Canby hospital.
Tuesday afternoon, 59-year-old man driving a pickup truck was killed after being hit by a semi-trailer traveling north on Highway 169. The investigation is still underway as to what caused the collision.
Hopefully, increased police presence and discussion about this incidents will save some lives over the rest of the month. Especially with more snow reported to be on the way.
(Update) Unfortunately, with the little more snow there were more problems in St Cloud. The State Patrol is reporting 80 accidents Sunday in the St. Cloud area. There were at least a half a dozen others in I-94 ditches further north.
Our sympathies go out to all of those involve who were injured or lost. As with any death in a Minnesota motor vehicle collision, there are a number of issues that will need to be reviewed.
