The Minnesota Department of Transportation has released a report of the 200 costliest intersections in the state. Nineteen of them were on Highway 65. According to a story in the Minneapolis Tribune, people are actually avoiding the road. One sad story included:
Anoka County Sheriff’s Capt. Tom Wells consoled a former department employee whose wife had been killed at an intersection on Hwy. 65 in Ham Lake, Wells said, the man’s teary response was, "I told her not to go that way."
One of the issues is how the road passes through so many towns and is actually Central Avenue for awhile in Minneapolis. Thus, one of the major contributing factors in these collisions are speed.
So advice for this area has to include:
- Slow down
- Keep a good look out
- Stay off the phone
- Avoid distractions
- Maybe even go another way.
Hopefully, increased scrutiny will increase the law enforcement in the area and educate all drivers to the common dangers.
