Not that long ago, I had a case of a Minnesotan who was injured down in Texas. I called Brooks Schuelke, a lawyer down there who knows his stuff. I always read his blog because it’s helpful and sometimes it reminds me of things I should be writing about. His recent article was right on point:

Is Your Personal Injury Lawyer A Member Of The Texas Trial Lawyers Association And The Capital Area Trial Lawyers Association?

He does a great job of explaining why these memberships are important. It’s finding a lawyer who is a member of the group that really does the kind of work you are looking for. These organizations provide the resources, education, and support that can help the members do the best work.

Joe Crumley and I are both past Presidents of the Minnesota organization. So we have written publications, spoken at seminars , and worked to educate others who do this work. We also have benefited greatly from being around fellow members.

I would have no idea how someone could do this kind of work and not be a member.

So ask when you are interviewing a potential lawyer, find out what organizations they are members of and why.
