Hearkening back to stories of the past, this past weekend a Ford Pinto blew up after being hit from behind . In this recent incident, a Clear Lake teenager was slowing to make a turn in the westbound lane of County Road 51 in St. Joseph Township when he was rear ended by a 1991 Ford Taurus. Police believe the Taurus was traveling at a high rate of speed, but the investigation continues.
As a result of the collision and explosion, the teen was severely burned and airlifted to the Twin Cities for care. Initial information from his CaringBridge site, indicates that he is getting the care that these sever burns require. Reading the comments to the St Cloud Times story shows a number of people that are around in support of him. Hopefully, he will improve and get healthy quickly.
The history and concerns about these cars is well documented. The video below graphically depict the problem. Thanks to consumer groups and the families of those that were killed in the many past cases, much was done to make all cars safer.

These cases involve intensive investigation and the use of many of the items and experts that were developed over time. it’s very sad to see that incidents like this are still happening in 2009.
