This week the Freeborn County attorney announced that there will be no criminal charges. Freeborn County Attorney Craig Nelson said that Erickson suffered a "fairly rapid onset" of internal bleeding in his esophagus that caused a "significant loss of blood."

As to the issue of civil liability, there will undoubtedly be questions of if the medical issue was an act of God or was foreseeable for the driver or his employer. Investigation will play a important part in making that determination
