Last month, I took the boys to the Real Pirates exhibit at the Minnesota Science Museum. It was very much worth the time. It told the story of real pirates and covered them pretty much start to finish. What I was intrigued by was their rules:
How many people would turn down a job with this kind of benefits? It is amazing that they looked at compensation, benefits, and injuries. It is amazing that they are better then so many states that aren't concerned about workers and continue to put profits over people.
The final lesson was the equality involved. There weren't the issues with slavery or class that you found on the land. If a person could do the job, that was what was important. Now I'm sure there are many other issues to look at, but on the employment side I was very impressed.
