Have you heard that civil lawsuits are clogging up the system? That loads of juries are giving away money like game shows? That the court system is out of control? The U S Chamber for Legal Reform is regularly spreading this kind of misinformation.
But the numbers don't back them up.
In 2011 there were over 1,500,000 total court filings in Minnesota.
40,357 of those were civil filings.
3,519 were Personal Injury claims
Those don't look like problem numbers. Also of interest, there were 4,950 contract cases, but no specific category for business lawsuits. It is always interesting to see how often these companies that are at the heart of the tort reform movement are involved in so many suits themselves.
A founding partner with Bradshaw & Bryant, Mike Bryant has always fought to find justice for his clients—knowing that legal troubles, both personal injury and criminal, can be devastating for a family. Voted a Top 40 Personal Injury "Super Lawyer" multiple years, Mr. Bryant has also been voted one of the Top 100 Minnesota "Super Lawyers" four times.
