The Minnesota Department of Transportation came out with the list of the other most dangerous intersections in Minnesota recently and St Cloud had two of them. They are right next to each other and they are actually very close to our office.

MnDot research found:

The Highway 15 and Second Street South intersection had 150 crashes during the past three years, according to MnDOT, more than any other intersection on the list. Highway 15 and Division Street had 81 crashes during the past three years.

Unfortunately, there really doesn't seem to be a simple solution to make the intersections safer. The area is all built up so there isn't a way to make it a bigger intersection. They have tried to adjust the lights, but there are concerns that longer wait times may have added to the congestion.

The simple solutions are for people to :

1) Slow Down.

2) Be alert and know that the intersections are dangerous.

3) Give yourself enough time to get through the area.

A long term solution may be to look at better access to the area from I-94. Since there are only three main exchanges, the growth to that end of town has really increased the number of cars coming from and heading to the highway.

There has always been an issue with how far I-94 was placed in relationship to the town of St Cloud. Maybe a better and bigger exchange would help with the problems that exist presently?
