A woman is in serious condition after driving her vehicle into Fish Lake; her child was also in the car at the time of the accident. It appears the mother was incoherent from her medication, according to police.

The car accident occurred when the woman lost control of her vehicle along Fish Lake in Chicago County at about 8:15 a.m., on Friday. After missing the turn, the vehicle plunged 150 feet before landing upside down in the lake.

A nearby fisherman and his wife witnessed the accident and helped to pull the child from the vehicle. A responding sheriff’s deputy rescued the mother.

Mother and child were transported to Regions Hospital. The child was released on Friday, but the mother remains hospitalized.

“The boater is the one who ultimately saved that infants life because the baby was submerged,” Deputy Michelle LaLonde said. “Hats off to the boater and his quick response.”

LaLonde jumped into the water when she saw the mother floating.
