The Bush Administration involved in a systematic plan of taking away your rights and to creat complete immunity. While the speeches have rung out about bringing democracy to other corners of the globe, the internal work has been to steal many rights away here at home.

Since the creation of the country, there has been an often tested balancing act between federal and state rights. The country was founded on this balance. The Bush administration has worked to stop states from enforcing their own laws, through a systematic use of preemption. Basically, using federal law to trump all of the individual states rights.

The Wall Street Journal recently described the process as:

The administration has written language aimed at pre-empting product-liability litigation into 50 rules governing everything from motorcycle brakes to pain medicine. The latest changes cap a multi year effort that could be one of the administration’s lasting legacies, depending in part on how the underlying principle of pre-emption fares in a case the Supreme Court will hear next month.

Such acts by an Administration on the way out, may take years to correct. Such acts clearly run contrary to the integral heart of what the country’s legal structure was built on. Hopefully, a clear election result with the election of Consumer Friendly officials can stop this from happening.
