Last spring, a woman in Minneapolis was attacked by pit bulls as she protected her daughter. The attack was vicious as she had part of her throat ripped out. The resulting injuries included difficulty breathing and swallowing and partial loss of speaking ability. Her medical bills were in excess of 250,000 dollars. This past week, the Minneapolis City Council approved a settlement.
Initially, the case looked like not only a human tragedy , but also that there would be no recovery because the defendant owner was uninsured. Investigation found that the City of Minneapolis had declared the dogs dangerous but never confiscated them as required. The city has since taken steps to improve its procedures for dealing with dangerous dogs.
See your doctor if you have been seriously injured by a dog or other animal. If you are attacked by a dog, these cases require a law firm with the experience and the ability to make sure that all angles are covered.
