Baby Hammocks Recalled By Nova Natural Toys And Kaplan Early Learning


The first week of August, The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Kaplan Early Learning Company, of Lewisville, N.C., and Nova Natural Toys & Crafts LLC, of Williston, Vt. recalled 500 La Siesta Yayita Baby Hammocks and Yayita Baby Hammocks. The hammock can flip over, posing a serious fall hazard and strangulation hazard to infants who become entrapped in the seat’s restraint straps while upside down.

The recalled baby hammock is a cream-colored canvas and hangs from a wooden pole. The hammock measures about 29 x 43 inches. It has three restraint straps with red buckles and is attached to a cushioned pad for the infant. A mounting fixture, also called a fixing set, is sold with the hammock. . “La Siesta” is printed on a tag located below the restraint straps. Model number YABN-1 is printed on a white tag sewn into the hammock’s side seam.They were sold through Nova Natural online at www.novanatural.com and though Kaplan’s 2005-2007 Infant, Toddlers & Two (ITT) catalog and online at www.kaplanco.com from October 2007 through October 2008 for about $100. The products were made in Colombia.

Consumers should immediately stop using the baby hammock and contact Nova Natural or Kaplan to receive a free replacement hammock. Kaplan can be contacted at (800) 334-2014 or by visiting the firm’s Web site at www.kaplanco.com.

    I’ve never heard of a hammock for a small child before. Due to the nature of hammocks, this is quite an important recall (not that others aren’t). They really have to get this product right or a child could easily end up dead.
